Rackspot participates in World IPv6 Day

2011-06-06

The World IPv6 day will occur on June 8th. This date will mark the beginning of a new Internet era, with the first massive test of content delivery via IPv6 protocol from the most notorious worldwide organizations. Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Akamai and Limelight Networks are just a small sample of some high profile companies that have joined this initiative.

The main goal of the World IPv6 Day is to motivate companies in several sectors – ISPs (Internet Service Providers), hosters, content providers, hardware manufacturers, software houses and web developers to prepare their services for IPv6, in order to ensure a successful transition from the already exhausted IPv4.

Rackspot will participate in this 24 hours test, and encouraged its own customers to take part of this date, by providing their contents / Websites in IPv6. Beside all its Cloud Hosting customers, some of the most well-known rackspot customers also joined this "test flight". Companies and websites such as ClubeFashion.com, standvirtual.com, leiloes.net, coisas.com, mundoPT.com and zwame.pt, considered the “World IPv6 Day” the perfect occasion to test its platforms and services over the new protocol.

In total, more than 5000 national websites were dual stacked, landmarking the nfsi telecom network as the major IPv6 enabled content Portuguese network.

Since 2003, the entire nfsi network is dual stacked, offering simultaneously IPv4 and IPv6 support to their customers, making this company one of the first Internet Service Provider in Europe to implement the new protocol.

Nuno Vieira, CTO of rackspot said that “as evangelists in the implementation of the IPv6 in Europe, makes all sense that rackspot participate actively in this initiative, This date will certainly be a turning point in the globalization of the IPv6 protocol implementation, and awareness of the Internet users to demand it to their ISPs.”
